The Agence Française de Développement (AFD) has increased its commitment to the African Development Bank (AfDB)-managed Africa Digital Financial Inclusion Facility (ADFI) by €3 million, bringing AFD's total funding to over €5 million. This investment aims to accelerate financial inclusion across Africa by supporting scalable initiatives that provide access to credit and financial services, particularly for underserved communities. The ADFI, co-founded in 2019 by the African Development Bank and AFD with the Gates Foundation and the Ministry of Finance of Luxembourg, focuses on expanding digital financial solutions through investments in infrastructure, policy, and product innovation. These efforts specifically target reducing gender gaps and building capacity. Recent data indicates that nearly half of Africa's adult population lacks access to digital financial solutions, especially women, youth, farmers, small businesses, and rural communities.
