UNICEF announced it will address the undernutrition crisis affecting children with a $42.8 million grant from USAID. The initiative aims to reach 2.4 million children with acute undernutrition to ensure they receive appropriate therapeutic feeding by 2025. The funding will also support 2,300 nutrition centers, providing essential care for children suffering from wasting, a life-threatening form of undernutrition with medical complications. Approximately 28,000 community-based treatment centers will be equipped to deliver this care. The crisis exacerbates existing vulnerabilities, with the number of wasted children already exceeding projections, rising from 5.5 million to 6.9 million since 2020, a 25% increase.
