Jordan and Lebanon Discuss Halting Israeli Attacks and Fire Exchange Amidst Escalating Border Tensions

Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and Lebanese counterpart Youssef Rajji convened to address the urgent need to halt Israeli attacks and the exchange of fire between Hezbollah and Israel. The meeting occurred against a backdrop of heightened tensions, exacerbated by recent Israeli aggressions in Lebanon.

During the discussions, both ministers emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation across various fields. Rajji expressed gratitude for Jordan's support, under the leadership of King Abdullah II, for Lebanon and its ongoing efforts to achieve an international consensus to halt Israeli aggression and establish a ceasefire.

The ministers stressed the necessity of stopping Israeli attacks and preventing further escalation between Hezbollah and Israel. Since October 8, 2023, Israel's attacks on Lebanon have intensified, leading to significant casualties and infrastructure damage. By February 18, 2024, reports indicated that Israeli strikes had resulted in 6 deaths and 31 injuries, according to official Lebanese sources.

Israel continues its incursions into Lebanese territory, violating established boundaries and prompting condemnation from the Palestinian state, which demands a return to pre-1967 borders.
