Amnesty International Condemns EU's Response to Situation in Gaza, Cites Risk of Complicity in Genocide

Amnesty International criticized the European Council's March 20, 2025, conclusions regarding the situation in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territory. Eve Geddie, Director of Amnesty International's European Institutions Office, stated the EU's refusal to explicitly condemn Israel's actions, including air strikes and obstruction of humanitarian aid, is unacceptable. Geddie asserted that the EU's stance demonstrates selective compassion and fails to reflect its commitment to international law. Amnesty International urges EU leaders to take decisive action to prevent complicity in what it describes as Israel's genocide in Gaza, apartheid, and unlawful occupation. The organization also highlighted that some EU member states continue to supply weapons to Israel, potentially breaching obligations to prevent genocide and ensure adherence to the Geneva Conventions. Amnesty International's report, "'You Feel Like You Are Subhuman': Israel's Genocide Against Palestinians in Gaza," concludes that Israel is committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.
