Israel to Release Five Lebanese Detainees Under Truce Agreement with Hezbollah Amid Ongoing Border Tensions

Israel will release five Lebanese detainees as a gesture to Lebanon's new president, according to an announcement from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office. This decision aligns with the truce agreement with Hezbollah, in effect since November 27. The announcement followed a meeting in Naqura between Israeli and Lebanese army representatives, along with mediators from France and the United States. During the meeting, three joint working groups were formed to stabilize the region, focusing on Israeli checkpoints in southern Lebanon, discussions on the Blue Line and disputed areas, and the issue of Lebanese detainees held by Israel. Despite the truce, both sides have accused each other of violations, with Lebanon demanding a full Israeli withdrawal and Israel citing a temporary measure until Lebanese forces can fully enforce the agreement.
