The United Nations' migration agency has reinstated humanitarian assistance to Rohingya refugees in Indonesia, according to the chief of mission in Jakarta. This reversal follows reports of a planned reduction in services to hundreds of Rohingya refugees sheltering in Pekanbaru, Riau. A letter from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) dated February 28 had indicated that support, including healthcare and cash assistance, would be cut off for nearly 1,000 Rohingya refugees in Pekanbaru due to resource constraints. The IOM stated it was complying with all legal orders after a funding pause by the United States, its biggest donor, which impacted the UN's humanitarian response for Rohingya refugees. Thousands of Rohingya refugees remain in Indonesia, reliant on UN support for shelter and aid, facing legal uncertainty as nations decline permanent resettlement.
