On June 19, 2025, the Finnish Parliament voted to leave the Оттавской конвенции о запрещении противопехотных мин. The decision was supported by a large majority of parliamentarians. President Alexander Stubb supported this step, noting that Russia is not a party to the treaty and that it is openly using anti-personnel mines. Finland has aligned with Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland, whose parliaments had previously approved the withdrawal from the treaty. Finland is now able to deploy anti-personnel mines after the official notification of other treaty members and the United Nations.
