Australian Job Vacancies Rebound, Signaling Labor Market Resilience

SYDNEY, June 26, 2025 – Job vacancies in Australia saw a notable increase in the May quarter, with construction and professional sectors leading the recovery.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) reported a 2.9% rise in job vacancies for the three months ending May 2025. This partially offsets a 4.5% decrease in the previous quarter, with the total number of openings reaching 339,400.

Private sector vacancies grew by 3.2%, while the public sector saw a 0.6% increase. The labor market's resilience is evident, with unemployment remaining near historic lows at 4.1%.
