The U.S. has announced new sanctions against Iran due to its continued advancement of its nuclear program. Secretary of State Marco Rubio made the announcement on Monday, May 12, detailing the measures. These actions follow the conclusion of recent talks between high-level representatives from both countries in Oman.
According to Rubio, Iran is pursuing "scientific and experimental activities of dual use," which are linked to "nuclear weapons and their delivery systems." The sanctions target Fuya Pars Prospective Technologists, a company accused of supporting Iran's military research organization, SPND. Additionally, three Iranian citizens associated with the nuclear program are also facing sanctions.
Representatives from Iran and the U.S. held a fourth round of consultations on Iran's nuclear program in Oman on May 11. Previous consultations took place in Muscat and Rome on April 12, 19, and 26. The U.S. continues to pressure Iran over its nuclear ambitions.
