Albania is set to hold parliamentary elections on May 11, marking the first since the commencement of EU accession negotiations in July 2022. Prime Minister Edi Rama and the ruling Socialist Party (PS) are aiming for a historic fourth term. The opposition remains fragmented, with the Democratic Party (PD) as the second strongest political force. Sunday's vote is widely seen as crucial for Albania's democratic path and its EU aspirations. A total of 3.7 million Albanian citizens are eligible to vote for 140 members of Parliament. The Albanian diaspora will participate in the voting process for the first time.
