The U.S. accuses Russia of violating UN sanctions against North Korea. This is allegedly done to obtain weapons for use in the war against Ukraine. The accusations were made by the U.S. Deputy Ambassador to the UN, Dorothy Shea, on Wednesday, May 7th.

Shea stated that Russia is attempting to evade criticism for its own violations. These violations pertain to the sanctions imposed on North Korea. She highlighted North Korea's continued export of coal and iron ore to China, funding its weapons programs.

Reports suggest North Korea has transferred over 24,000 containers of munitions and military equipment to Russia since September 2023. They also allegedly sent over 100 ballistic missiles for use against Ukraine. Additionally, around 15,000 North Korean laborers have been sent to Russia, according to the Wall Street Journal.
