Russia's budget deficit surges amid declining oil revenue and rising military spending

Edited by: Татьяна Гуринович

Russia's federal budget deficit significantly increased in April due to falling oil revenues and increased military expenditures.

The monthly deficit reached 1.05 trillion rubles ($13 billion), a sharp contrast to the previous month's surplus, according to Bloomberg calculations based on Finance Ministry data.

The cumulative deficit for the first four months of the year now stands at 3.2 trillion rubles, nearly three times the deficit recorded during the same period in 2024.
