New zealand proposes social media restrictions for under 16s

Edited by: Татьяна Гуринович

New Zealand's National Party is seeking to restrict social media access for individuals under the age of 16. This mirrors a similar proposal in Australia.

National parliamentarian Catherine Wedd introduced the members' bill on Tuesday. Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has endorsed the bill.

The bill's progression requires selection from a ballot and support from coalition partners or the opposition to become law.
