Europe to draw lessons from spain, portugal blackout

Edited by: Татьяна Гуринович

European Commission Vice President Teresa Ribera stated that Europe will learn from the recent blackout in Spain and Portugal. The focus will be on the necessity of power storage and grid investments. She cautioned against prematurely blaming renewable energy for the outage.

Ribera emphasized the importance of understanding the cause of the blackout. Large-capacity batteries and increased inter-state grid connections are crucial. These measures can mitigate the risk of electrical system outages.

Spain's grid operator REE has narrowed the source to two separate generation losses in southwestern Spain substations. The exact location of these incidents is still under investigation.
