The European Union is preparing to introduce a 17th package of sanctions against Russia. This was announced on Thursday, May 1st, by French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot. He emphasized the coordination with the United States on the content and timing of these sanctions. In related news, 72 legislators have supported a bill for new U.S. sanctions against Russia. These sanctions would be implemented if Russia refuses to negotiate peace in Ukraine. The head of the French Foreign Ministry indicated agreement on both packages. Furthermore, the United States and Ukraine have signed an economic agreement. This agreement involves creating an investment fund to rebuild Ukraine. The signing took place after lengthy negotiations between U.S. and Ukrainian finance ministers.
