Brazil's Supreme Court granted house arrest to former President Fernando Collor de Mello on Thursday. He will be monitored with an electronic ankle bracelet.
Collor de Mello was previously held in a Maceió prison after being convicted of corruption. The court had recently ratified his sentence of eight years and ten months.
The judge granted the benefit for "humanitarian reasons." Collor de Mello's defense argued he suffers from "serious" health problems, including Parkinson's and bipolar disorder.
