India Closes Airspace to Pakistani Aircraft Amid Rising Tensions

Edited by: Света Света

On May 1, 2025, India announced the closure of its airspace to all Pakistani-owned and operated aircraft. This decision follows Pakistan's closure of its airspace to Indian airlines six days prior.

The measure, effective until May 23, 2025, comes amid escalating tensions after a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The attack resulted in the deaths of 26 tourists, with India linking the perpetrators to Islamabad.

The airspace closure will impact Pakistani flights to Southeast Asia and Oceania. These flights will now face longer routes, increased travel times, and higher fuel costs.
