Ukraine Denies Russian Claims of Recapturing Kursk Region

Edited by: Татьяна Гуринович

The Ukrainian military has refuted claims made by the Russian General Staff that Russia has regained control of the Kursk region.

According to the Ukrainian military, fighting continues in the border area where Ukraine launched an offensive in August 2024. The Ukrainian General Staff stated that reports of Ukrainian troops being defeated are propaganda.

The Russian General Staff had previously claimed that its soldiers had retaken the region, which was partially controlled by Ukrainian troops. Valeri Gerasimov stated that the last town in the Kursk region, Gornal, had been liberated from Ukrainian units.
