U.s. state department shuts down counter disinformation hub

Edited by: Татьяна Гуринович

The U.S. State Department is shutting down the Counter Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (R/FIMI) Hub. This decision follows First Amendment lawsuits against its predecessor, the Global Engagement Center (GEC).

Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated the office cost taxpayers over $50 million annually. He asserted it silenced American voices, contradicting the principles it should uphold.

The remaining 40 staffers will be placed on administrative leave and terminated within 30 days. The State Department must notify Congress of funding reassignments within 15 days.
