France Threatens Retaliation as Algeria Reportedly Orders Expulsion of 12 French Diplomats

Edited by: Татьяна Гуринович

France stated on Monday, April 14, that Algeria has threatened to expel 12 of its diplomatic staff. French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot announced that if the expulsion proceeds, France will respond immediately. The dispute follows Algeria's protest over France's detention of an Algerian consular agent linked to the alleged kidnapping of an Algerian government opponent. Relations between France and Algeria have been strained, particularly after French President Emmanuel Macron's support for Morocco's stance on Western Sahara.
