Ecuador Declares State of Emergency in Seven Provinces and Quito Amid Rising Violence

Edited by: Татьяна Гуринович

On April 12, 2025, Ecuador declared a 60-day state of emergency in seven of its 24 provinces, including Guayas, Los Ríos, Manabí, Santa Elena, El Oro, Orellana, and Sucumbíos, as well as in Quito and the penitentiary system. This action, implemented by President Daniel Noboa, responds to increased violence attributed to organized armed groups. The decree suspends rights to inviolability of domicile and correspondence, freedom of assembly, and imposes a seven-hour nighttime curfew in specific areas within Guayas, Los Ríos, Orellana, Sucumbíos, and Ponce Enríquez.
