China and Europe Unite to Protect Global Trade Amidst US Tariffs; Trump Increases Tariffs on Chinese Goods

Edited by: Татьяна Гуринович

China and Europe are set to collaborate on safeguarding international trade amidst increasing tariffs imposed by the U.S., as stated by Chinese President Xi Jinping on April 11. He emphasized the need to resist unilateral actions to maintain order and regulations during a meeting with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez in Beijing. The next EU-China summit is planned for July 2025 in China. U.S. President Donald Trump announced on April 10 an increase in tariffs on Chinese goods to 145%, up from the previously announced 125%. Trump attributed the tariff increase to Beijing's alleged involvement in fentanyl-related narcotics trafficking and accused China of unfair treatment towards global markets. In response, China declared it would raise tariffs on U.S. goods from the previously announced 84% to 125%.
