US Tariffs on Chinese Imports Reach 145% Despite Global Tariff Pause

Edited by: Татьяна Гуринович

Despite a 90-day pause on reciprocal tariffs for many of America's trading partners, tariffs on certain Chinese imports will reach 145%. This figure includes a 125% duty imposed due to what the US President termed "a lack of respect" from Beijing, combined with an existing 20% "fentanyl tariff." China has retaliated by imposing an 84% tariff on US goods, effective Thursday. The US exported over $143 billion worth of goods to China in 2024, while importing approximately $440 billion. The US trade deficit with China has widened to $295 billion. The 90-day pause with other trading partners was initiated partly due to concerns about the bond market and US stock indices.
