French President Emmanuel Macron has indicated that France is considering recognizing the State of Palestine in June 2025. This potential recognition could coincide with a UN conference in New York co-hosted by France and Saudi Arabia, focused on resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Several other countries have already taken steps in this direction. In May 2024, Ireland, Norway, and Spain officially recognized the State of Palestine, reflecting a growing international sentiment. The UN General Assembly has also agreed to hold a high-level conference in New York from June 2-4, 2025, to promote a peaceful settlement and implement a two-state solution.
Macron stated that recognizing a Palestinian state is not a matter of unity or pleasing others, but a decision based on fairness and a desire to participate in a collective dynamic. He also emphasized that such recognition would allow France to clearly oppose those who deny Israel's right to exist and commit to collective security in the region.
