US Senator Rubio Expresses Concern Over Protests in Turkey, Addresses Detention of Turkish Student in the US

US Senator Marco Rubio stated his concern over protests in Turkey, triggered by the detention of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu. Rubio mentioned raising these concerns with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan during their meeting in Washington on Tuesday. However, Turkish diplomatic sources claim this topic was not discussed during the meeting. Rubio also addressed the detention of Turkish student Rumeysa Öztürk in the US, stating that the State Department has canceled the visas of over 300 students. He accused Öztürk and other students with canceled visas of vandalism on university campuses. Öztürk, a doctoral student, had written an article in the Tufts Daily calling for a boycott of Israel due to the Gaza attacks.
