Turkey Faces Crackdown on Protests Following Arrest of Istanbul Mayor; Just Stop Oil Ends Climate Protest Campaign

The Turkish government has warned of a crackdown on protestors and extended bans on gatherings in Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir amid the largest protests in over a decade. Authorities have detained 1,879 people since the demonstrations began last Wednesday, following the jailing of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu on corruption charges.

Just Stop Oil announced the end of its campaign of climate protests. The group said its decision came after the British government made ending new gas and oil projects official policy.
