China Sets Softer Emissions Rules for Steel, Aluminum, and Cement Industries Joining Carbon Market in 2025

China has established less stringent emissions regulations for the steel, aluminum, and cement sectors, which are slated to join its carbon market in 2025. The environment ministry announced on March 21 that while these industries will participate in emissions trading this year, their free allowances will not be capped until 2027.
