Nicaragua's First Lady Rosario Murillo Assumes Military Command Following Legal Reform

Rosario Murillo, Nicaragua's First Lady and "co-president," is set to assume command of the country's military. This follows a legal reform approved by the National Assembly on March 25, 2025. The reform stipulates that the army is under the command of the President, a position shared by Daniel Ortega and Murillo since a constitutional change in February. Murillo will officially have military command once the law is finalized and published. The army will also take on some policing duties.
