Israel Establishes New Body to Promote "Voluntary Emigration" of Palestinians from Gaza

The Israeli government has established a new institution aimed at encouraging the "voluntary emigration" of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to third countries. This body, under the authority of the Defense Ministry, will "prepare for the voluntary departure of residents of the Gaza Strip to third countries in a safe and controlled manner," according to a spokesperson for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The proposal was approved by the Security Cabinet, following a proposal from Defense Minister Israel Katz. Jordan has strongly criticized the plan, with its Foreign Ministry stating that it constitutes a plan for forced displacement. The ministry also expressed concerns about plans to convert 13 populated areas in the occupied West Bank into independent Israeli settlements, which it views as a violation of international law. Several non-governmental organizations have also criticized the plan, arguing that people do not leave their homes voluntarily. Doctors Without Borders warned against a mass expulsion of Palestinian residents in the northern West Bank, urging Israel to halt forced displacement and increase humanitarian aid.
