Philippine and U.S. Armies Commence Joint Military Exercises

Joint military exercises between the Philippine and U.S. armies began on Monday, March 24, focusing on territorial defense and large-scale troop deployments. Approximately 5,000 soldiers from both armies will participate in Exercise Salaknib, which includes warfighting and expertise exchange. U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is scheduled to visit Manila to meet with Philippine leaders and forces. These exercises, initiated in 2016, are part of the broader Balikatan training drills and reflect increased security cooperation under President Marcos Jr.
