Top diplomats from Japan, China, and South Korea convened in Tokyo on Saturday, March 22, to address regional security and economic concerns amid increasing global uncertainty. Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya emphasized the importance of dialogue and cooperation during this critical juncture. The meeting, the first of its kind since 2023, included discussions on North Korean nuclear weapons and trade. It is intended to set the stage for a trilateral leaders' summit, following the previous summit in Seoul last year. Iwaya also planned separate bilateral meetings with his Chinese and South Korean counterparts, including the first high-level economic dialogue with Beijing in six years, where the ban on Japanese seafood imports following the Fukushima wastewater release was expected to be discussed.
