Heathrow Airport Shuts Down Due to Power Outage Caused by Substation Fire

London's Heathrow Airport, a major international travel hub, was closed on Friday due to a significant power outage. The airport operator reported that a fire at an electrical substation supplying the airport caused the outage.

The closure affected over 1,350 flights. Passengers were advised not to travel to the airport and to contact their airlines for further information. The London Fire Brigade responded to the fire with approximately 70 firefighters and 10 fire trucks.

Eurocontrol, which manages air traffic control operations across Europe, indicated that no arrivals were permitted at Heathrow due to the power outage, and flight diversions were planned. Several flights were diverted to other airports, including Paris, Shannon, and Washington, D.C.
