French PM Rules Out Reverting Retirement Age to 62 Amid Pension System Concerns

French Prime Minister Francois Bayrou has stated that the government will not revert the retirement age back to 62, citing the current financial state of the pension system. Bayrou has initiated a three-month period of discussions between labor unions and business federations to revise President Emmanuel Macron's 2023 pension law. This law is gradually increasing the minimum retirement age from 62 to 64. Bayrou also noted that establishing a single minimum retirement age might not be the only viable solution.
