South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol Released After Court Order; Prosecutors Will Not Appeal

Impeached South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol was released from detention on Saturday following a court order. Seoul's Central District Court had canceled Yoon's arrest warrant on Friday, citing the timing of his indictment and questions about the legality of the investigation. Television footage showed Yoon waving and bowing to supporters after leaving the detention center in Seoul. Yoon expressed gratitude to the people and thanked the court for correcting the illegality in a statement released through his lawyers. He was arrested and charged in January over his decision to declare martial law on December 3, a move that caused political turmoil. The Constitutional Court continues to deliberate on whether to reinstate or remove him from office. South Korean prosecutors have decided not to appeal the court's decision to release Yoon Suk Yeol, according to Yonhap News.
