The U.S. government announced indictments against alleged Chinese hackers and sanctioned a Chinese tech company on Wednesday, March 5, accusing them of a years-long global espionage campaign. Ten individuals are accused of stealing data, with eight linked to Anxun Information Technology (i-Soon) and two to the Chinese Ministry of Public Security. i-Soon is described as a key player in China's hacker-for-hire ecosystem, targeting entities such as the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency, the U.S. Department of Commerce, foreign ministries of Taiwan, South Korea, India, and Indonesia, news organizations critical of China, and religious groups. The U.S. Treasury also sanctioned Shanghai Heiying Information Technology Company and its owner for allegedly stealing and selling data from sensitive U.S. infrastructure networks.
