EU Condemns US Tariffs on Mexico and Canada; Germany Pledges Unified Response to Potential Tariffs

The European Commission expressed deep regret on Tuesday regarding the tariffs imposed by the US Trump administration on imports from Mexico and Canada. The Commission stated that this action risks disrupting global trade, harming economic partners, and creating uncertainty. EU trade spokesman Olof Gill echoed these concerns, noting the threat to supply chains, investment flows, and economic stability. He urged the United States to reconsider and pursue a cooperative, rules-based solution. German Economy Minister Robert Habeck stated that the EU would respond with unity and self-confidence if the US imposes similar tariffs on the bloc. He affirmed Germany's support for the EU Commission's efforts to find a negotiated solution but emphasized that the EU would not be intimidated.
