Trump Administration, Backed by Elon Musk, Demands Federal Employees Summarize Work Amidst Layoff Concerns

The Trump administration, with support from Elon Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), issued a second round of emails on Friday, March 1, demanding federal employees summarize their work from the past week. This follows an initial attempt that faced resistance due to unclear directives. The emails, sent by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, instructed employees to list five accomplishments from the week. This action is part of a broader effort to assess employee performance and potentially implement mass layoffs to reduce the federal workforce. Despite some agencies initially resisting compliance, the administration is pressing forward, citing the need for accountability. This initiative has led to approximately 100,000 federal workers already taking buyouts or being terminated. Furthermore, a tech team within the U.S. General Services Administration, known as 18F, was recently deemed "non-critical" and shut down.
