25 September in New York an unusual guest appeared during the evening candlelight prayer service at the Church of Saint Joseph in Greenwich Village.
Through the front door, quite calmly, a raccoon ran in. 🦝
By all appearances, it needed no invitation: it looked around a bit, walked through the church and soon headed back outside just as independently.
The story became widely known 4 October — right around the Day of Saint Francis of Assisi, who is traditionally considered the patron saint of animals.
So the raccoon's appearance turned out to be almost on theme.
Perhaps it simply saw the open door and decided: if animals are being blessed today, they can start with me. 😄
