Instagram has unveiled an updated logo, marking its first change in over a decade.
Adam Mosseri, the platform's head, shared an image of the new design on Threads, commenting that the previous wordmark appeared outdated.
“We updated the Instagram wordmark today,” Mosseri explained, “it's been over ten years old and felt outdated.” He added, “We believe the refresh is clearer and more modern while maintaining a nod to the original and the simplicity and craftsmanship that have always made it Instagram.”
The company also released an updated brand system, which includes new fonts, icons, and formats.
User reaction to the change has been mixed. Mosseri's posts on both Instagram and Threads garnered over five thousand comments.
Many critics pointed out the font choice, noting that the letter “r” in the new rendering resembles a “z.” Others complained that such changes are of no interest to them, stating they simply wish to see posts from the accounts they follow.
For regular users, the new logo likely holds little significance. However, it could potentially give the application a fresher feel for a specific audience.
The question remains whether this update signals more significant changes within the application or if it will be limited solely to the branding at the top of the screen.
