When a Meme Becomes a Trend

Edited by: Svitlana Velhush

As of the morning of 4 November 2026, two memes confidently topped the MemeStand virality ranking — "POV: YOUR FIRST TIME IN A FANCY CAFE" and "FRUTIGER AERO YAMS."

The first appeared on 1 November on TikTok at @leehoustonx. The clip, in which the protagonist awkwardly sits down at the wrong table in an expensive cafe, racked up more than 10,6 million views in a day. Soon AI remakes followed — on TikTok, in Reels and on X. By 3 November the meme had made it to Know Your Meme. By 4 November, @Flovaai's post on X had gathered 285 thousand views, @boby.biggsjohnson's video — 5,4 million, and @kevinwinnik's Instagram clip passed the 11 million likes mark.

The second meme — "FRUTIGER AERO YAMS" — references the glossy, almost sterile aesthetic of the early 2000s. The earliest mention was found on 19 October on Instagram. Know Your Meme added an entry on 3 November. By 4 November, @watosis's video on TikTok had gathered 314 thousand views, @LashSleeper's post on X — 244 thousand, @thebigsolomando's Instagram — 70 thousand likes, and the Lessons in Meme Culture video on YouTube — 485 thousand views.

Both images took off thanks to a cross-platform wave: from X and TikTok to Reddit and Know Your Meme. The MemeStand ranking takes into account views, likes and mentions across several platforms at once — and it was precisely these two memes that took the top lines as of 4 November.

The question remains: what makes these particular images spread so fast right now?
