Rocket Lab's Electron rocket successfully launched a confidential satellite into a 650-kilometer sun-synchronous orbit on June 28, 2025, from Launch Complex 1 in Mahia, New Zealand. The mission, named "Symphony in the Stars," was Rocket Lab's second launch within 48 hours and the fourth in June 2025.
Details about the payload remain undisclosed, but the customer has a second mission scheduled before the end of the year. Speculation suggests the customer might be EchoStar, deploying a constellation of small satellites called Lyra for Internet of Things (IoT) services. An illustration on the mission patch resembles previously released Lyra satellite illustrations.
This launch also established a new record for Rocket Lab, achieving the shortest turnaround time between launches at Launch Complex 1. The previous launch, "Get The Hawk Outta Here," occurred just 37 hours before "Symphony in the Stars." Rocket Lab has conducted 10 Electron launches this year and plans for over 20 in 2025.
Peter Beck, CEO of Rocket Lab, highlighted the company's commitment to proven performance. The "Symphony in the Stars" mission emphasizes Rocket Lab's dedication to providing rapid and reliable access to space for its customers. This rapid turnaround demonstrates the increasing efficiency of commercial space launch operations.
