K2 Space is set to transform satellite technology economics with its high-performance, cost-effective platform, backed by new funding. This investment will accelerate production, expand personnel, and integrate manufacturing processes. The company's 'Gravitas' mission will test satellite resilience in medium-Earth orbit (MEO), supporting both national security and commercial payloads. Sierra Space has secured a $16 million contract from AFRL to advance its VR35K-A upper stage engine technology, following a previous $22 million contract. The VR35K-A, featuring a fuel-rich staged combustion cycle and VORTEX combustion chamber, delivers 35,000 pounds of thrust. NASA's Roman Space Telescope is nearing completion, with the sunshade and outer barrel assembly successfully integrated. These components will undergo thermal vacuum and shake tests to ensure functionality in space. The Roman observatory is on track for completion by fall 2026, with a launch planned no later than May 2027.
