Edited by: an_lymons vilart

2025, Netherlands - Saltes, based in Tilburg, has been awarded the New Energy Award 2025 for its innovative molten salt thermal battery.

This battery stores renewable energy, such as solar or wind power, as heat, which can then be used in industrial processes as a sustainable alternative to natural gas. The high energy density, low material costs, and scalability make the battery both innovative and practical.

The award was presented at the New Energy Forum on the Zernike Campus in Groningen. The jury highlighted Saltes' essential contribution to the sustainability of the industry, stating it could accelerate industrial electrification.

Other notable awards included Verdant Biogas for its compact biogas digester and BrewRight for its CO2 capture system for small breweries. The Entrance Student Award 2025 was given to students from Alfa-college Groningen for their Power Unit, a mobile demonstration of hydrogen as a green fuel.

The New Energy Coalition, based in Groningen, connects businesses, governments, and knowledge institutions to position the Northern Netherlands as a testbed for the energy transition in Europe. Through Entrance, innovative companies like Saltes gain access to a powerful network, knowledge, and support.
