PUFF 2.0: Empowering African Businesses

Edited by: an_lymons vilart

June 2025, Nigeria, Kenya, and Ethiopia: CLASP and GEAPP launched a $6.1 million initiative.

The Productive Use Financing Facility (PUFF) 2.0 aims to provide 10,000 energy-efficient appliances.

These include solar-powered refrigerators, water pumps, and milling machines.

The program supports local manufacturers and distributors through grants and technical assistance.

PUFF 2.0 is expected to create over 3,000 green jobs.

The pilot phase (2022-2024) brought 16,000 appliances to market.

Nearly half of the appliances were purchased by women.

Households with female buyers saw an average income increase of 94%.

PUFF 2.0 focuses on gender equality and youth empowerment.

The initiative aligns with Mission 300, aiming to connect 300 million people to electricity by 2030.

PUFF addresses the affordability gap for clean energy-powered tools.
