Indonesia's First Integrated Solar Cell Plant Aims for Regional Green Electricity Supply

In October 2024, Indonesia inaugurated its first integrated solar cell plant, Trina Mas Agra Indonesia, in Central Java. This $100 million joint venture involves China's Trina Solar, Indonesia's Sinar Mas, and state utility PLN. The plant signifies a major step in Indonesia's energy transition.

The plant's initial capacity is 1 GW, with plans to expand to 3 GW. It aims to not only meet Indonesia's growing energy demands but also potentially supply green electricity to Singapore. This initiative highlights Indonesia's ambition to become a key player in the regional green energy market.

Chinese solar firms are increasingly investing in Indonesia, attracted by its expanding market and relatively low solar energy penetration. The plant currently employs 350 people, with 80% being Indonesian, contributing to local job creation and economic development.
