TAQA and EWEC Partner on 1 GW Al Dhafra OCGT Project to Support UAE's AI and Net-Zero Goals

On current date, Abu Dhabi's TAQA and EWEC announced a partnership to develop energy infrastructure supporting the UAE's AI 2031 and Net Zero 2050 initiatives. Key points include: * TAQA signed a 24-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with EWEC for the 1-gigawatt (GW) Al Dhafra Open-Cycle Gas Turbine (OCGT) project. * TAQA will own, operate, and maintain the OCGT plant. * TAQA Transmission will develop power grid infrastructure to integrate the increased capacity. * The project supports EWEC and Masdar's initiative for 24/7 renewable energy dispatch, delivering up to 1 GW of baseload renewable power daily via a combined solar and battery energy storage system (BESS). * The partnership will facilitate an investment of approximately AED36 billion in Abu Dhabi's energy supply infrastructure, with 75% allocated to renewable and conventional power generation and 25% to grid infrastructure.
