China, 2024: BYD, the country's largest EV maker, announced an ultra-fast EV charging system. The new flash chargers can fully charge EVs in 5-8 minutes. BYD plans to build over 4,000 new charging stations across China. The 1-megawatt flash chargers can provide power for 400 kilometers in 5 minutes. The system uses silicon carbide power chips with voltage levels up to 1,500V. BYD's "Super e-Platform" technology will be capable of peak charging speeds of 1,000 kilowatts.
