In the UK, Lancaster University is constructing a Net Zero Energy Centre, projected to generate 39 GWh of low-carbon energy, sufficient to heat 95% of campus buildings by 2030. The project includes installing 6.5 km of district heating pipework, connecting 247 buildings and expanding network coverage from 65% to 95%. The center will feature 1,500 cubic meters of thermal storage and a visitor facility for education on heat pump technology. The project, in partnership with Vital Energi, will save 2,700 tonnes of carbon annually and create 42 local jobs.
