In 2024, Serbia decommissioned 64 fuel oil, heating oil, and coal-burning boiler rooms across Apatin, Odžaci, and Šid. A public-private partnership with Negawatt Solutions and B&S Immobilien (EnergyNet group) facilitated the transition to natural gas, enhancing air quality and heating efficiency in 29 schools, 8 kindergartens, and public institutions. The 14-month project reduced CO2 emissions by 15% in Apatin (116 tons/year), 36% in Odžaci (540 tons/year), and 13% in Šid (83 tons/year). NOx emissions decreased by 27%, SOx by 100%, and PM10/PM2.5 particles by 85% across the municipalities. The private partner manages fuel procurement and thermal energy supply for 15 years, ensuring efficient operation and contributing to Serbia's goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 33.33% by 2030.
