November 20, 2024, Singapore – Neste, based in Espoo, Finland, has partnered with Singapore's PCS Pte. Ltd. to supply renewable solutions to Southeast Asia's chemicals industry. This collaboration aims to introduce renewable raw materials to replace fossil fuels in chemical and plastic production.
Neste will provide PCS with Neste RE™, a renewable material derived from waste products, such as used cooking oil and residues from vegetable oil processing. This material will replace fossil raw materials at PCS's Jurong Island facilities, enabling the production of essential chemicals like ethylene, propylene, and butadiene.
The initial deliveries will include butadiene for clients such as Mitsubishi Corporation, Toray Plastics (Malaysia) Sdn Berhad, and Synthomer Sdn Bhd. The renewable products will match the quality, safety, and performance of fossil counterparts while significantly reducing carbon footprints.
Mr. Hisashi Shibayama, Managing Director at PCS, stated, “With this partnership, we are establishing one of the first ISCC-certified renewable value chains for butadiene in the region.” He emphasized the commitment to reducing reliance on virgin raw materials and meeting the growing demand for sustainable solutions.
Jeroen Verhoeven, Commercial Director at Neste, noted, “This marks another milestone in the use of Neste RE in Singapore. Together, we can help companies reduce their Scope 3 emissions effectively.”
PCS Pte. Ltd. plays a central role in the Singapore Essential Chemicals Complex, supplying high-quality ethylene, propylene, and other essential chemicals while providing utilities to pipeline-customers.
